The Kalona Elementary School Boosters noted the group had a very successful year and announced its has approximately $10,000 to spend toward purchase of classroom materials and playground equipment.
Planned purchases are classroom dictionaries, novels and non-fiction books, computer software, calculators, replacement of 1-2 basketball backboards with lifetime guarantees, tetherball set, space shuttle/walkway playground equipment, and outdoor classroom observation benches.
The Boosters also provided field trips, board games and extra funds for classroom and program enhancements throughout the year.
One of the sources of funding was the collecting of General Mills boxtops that netted the Boosters $131.35 and the collecting of Campbell labels. The latter amounted to more than 2,600 and will help provide for two tetherballs.
Both campaigns will be resumed this fall; however, residents may collect labels and boxtops and leave them in designated containers at JW’s Foods.
Officers for 1999-2000 are Mary Yoder, president; Terri Duwa, vice-president; Bonnie Nisly, secretary; Connie Swartzendruber, treasurer; Beth Swantz, teacher liaison; Linda Oldfield, support staff liaison; Lisa Yoder, Cheri Rhodes and Julie Altenhofen, members at large.
