Kirkwood presents grain marketing course

One of the biggest obstacles, aside from the weather, that farmers face is marketing grain crops. To better understand the options available in merchandising grain, Kim Hall of Agmark, a local commodity broker will conduct a two-session Grain Marking I class in the Kirkwood Learning Center in Washington.

Hall said the sessions will provide a great deal of “real world” information. “The first session will discuss the concept of “basis”, as it relates to transactions at the Chicago Board of Trade,” he said. “We will also explore futures and options and how they may reduce the price risk. The second class session will further review futures and options and how we can apply these tools to develop a marketing plan.”

Grain Marketing I is April 7 and 14 from 7-9 p.m. Tuition is $5. To register, call 319-653-4655.
