Know Your Constitution project kicks off statewide

The Iowa State Bar Association and the ISBA Foundation are offering the Know Your Constitution quiz to Iowa 9 - 12 grade students. Many County Bar Associations across the state are actively supporting the annual project that encourages young people to learn all they can about our national Constitution and awards five students and their teacher-coaches a week-long, all expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C.

All Iowa schools were invited to participate and receive quiz forms to duplicate and present as an open book test for students. Entry deadline is December 2. Last year more than 4,000 Iowa students participated.

Approximately 100 students, divided equally among Iowa’s House Districts, who are the top scorers in their schools will be honored as finalists at a luncheon in Des Moines, January 14. They will be accompanied by their teachers. Five students’ names will be selected in a random drawing for the Washington visits. The all-expense-paid trips, - including flights, hotels and transportation and meals in the nation’s capitol, - for the students and their teachers were arranged by the Close Up Foundation. The Washington visits are slated for February 20-26.
