Ready to do battle with fellow conference members, the Lady Lions and Highland wrestling teams competed in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference Tournament hosted by Columbus on Nov. 21.
Lone Tree results
As a team the Lady Lions ended the tournament with 50 points to tie for sixth in the final standings along with Wapello. Pekin won the team title with 160 points and coming in as the runner-up was Columbus/W-MU with a score of 105.
Capturing the highest place finish for the Lady Lions at the SEISC tourney was Alex Dautremont. The senior wrestling at 140 lbs went 2-1 to capture a runner-up finish.
Dautremont won her round one and her round two matches by fall in times of 39 seconds and 58 seconds respectively. Her only loss of the night came against Hailey Pedrick of Pekin who won a tough match over Dautremont by fall in 5:17.
When it came to the other four Lady Lions in this conference tourney (Carlee Sexton, Olivia Magruder, Kayleigh Rundlett, and Ashlynn Sojka) they all secured a third place finish by going 1-2 on the night.
Carlee Sexton (wrestling at 105 lbs) won her round three match by forfeit over Layne Price of Mediapolis. Olivia Magruder (wrestling at 135 lbs) won her round one match by fall in 2:33 over Columbus/W-MU’s Aubrey Valencia.
Kayleigh Rundlett (wrestling at 145 lbs) won her round one match over Van Buren’s Lexie Wiley by fall in 1:10. Ashlynn Sojka (wrestling at 235 lbs) won her round three match over Columbus/W-MU’s Brynn Pogmore by fall in 2:35.
Highland results
The Highland duo of Chloe Sexton and Maiya Singbeil secured a first place and second place finish respectively at the conference tourney.
Wrestling in the 190 lbs bracket, Sexton picked up two victories over the same opponent to claim first place. In round one Sexton won by fall in 1:18 over Columbus/W-MU’s Jada Moats and in the second round Sexton won again against Moats but this time by fall in 36 seconds.
Singbeil dropped her first two matches in the 135 lbs bracket (by fall in 32 seconds and by 6-0 decision) but bounced back in the third round to take the runner-up spot by defeating Lone Tree’s Olivia Magruder by fall in 3:17.
