Lady Lions claim Central City first place crown

CENTRAL CITY

Not settling for anything less, the Lady Lions put together strong performance after strong performance to eventually claim the team championship at the Central City CO-ED track meet on April 11. 

Lone Tree placed 1st in the team standings with a score of 169. The runner-up team was Dunkerton with 148 and third place went to East Buchanan who scored 144. 

As a team the Lady Lions ended the meet with six 1st place finishes, seven 2nd place finishes, seven 3rd place finishes, and setting 17 new personal bests. 

Christofferson, a speedy sophomore, took first place in two individual races and one relay race. 

She outran all the competition in the 100m and the 200m with times of 13.56 and 27.78 respectively. Rylee Shield also raced in the 200m, earning a runner-up finish in 29.01. Shield was a first-place winner in the 400m in 1:04.

Then Christofferson along with teammates Cate Sexton, Addison McCullough, and Shield placed 1st in the sprint medley relay in 2:04. 

Other top performances for Lone Tree came from Jazmine Nino and Hayden Yoder. 

Yoder showed her strength in the throwing events, placing 1st in discus (85-09) and 2nd in shot put (30-09). In a long-distance running event, Nino placed 1st in the 3000m with a time of 14:42. 

Each runner-up finishes in the long jump and the high jump belonged to Lone Tree. Cate Sexton took 2nd in the long jump with a distance of 14-10.50 and Olivia Magruder cleared the bar at 4-02 to place 2nd in the high jump. 

Lone Tree had two Lady Lions finish in the top three in the 800m. Freshman Carlee Sexton ran fast enough for a 3rd place finish in 3:10 and junior Vivian Zaruba placed 2nd in 3:04.
