RIVERSIDE
Lakeshore Recycling Systems has been awarded a five-year contract for trash removal and recycling collection in Riverside.
The Riverside City Council approved the contract at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
The five-year contract begins with the start of Fiscal Year 2026 in July and goes through June 2030.
Costs during the contract include $20.09 per household in FY26 and increasing to $22.61 in five years.
Trash and recyclables are picked up weekly.
Parking
The Council discussed at length the possibility of parking problems on Commercial Drive, which is host to the Copper Creek Ridge event center, University of Iowa Health Care facility and a planned campground for RVs.
Options discussed included allowing parking on one side of Commercial Drive or opening up a piece of property owned by the city.
“The action, as far as I’m concerned, is on them,” Council member Ryan Rogerson said.
“We need to figure something out,” Council member Lois Schneider said. “It’s a problem out there.”
Cherry Lane extension
Work on the Cherry Lane extension project was expected to begin this week.
The project will extend Cherry Lane, south of Highland Elementary, to improve traffic flow and safety around the school.
Jones Contracting Corp., of West Point, is the contractor for the $247,887 project. The road extension is projected to be completed over the summer.
Council Action
The Council approved a payment of $91,952.52 to Cornerstone Commercial Contractors for work completed on the CDBG Downtown Revitalization Project.
Next board meeting:
The City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting is at 6 p.m. June 16. A work session on the proposed wellness center is set for 6 p.m. June 9.
