Larry Lee Schweitzer was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Wood River, Nebraska, the son of Steve and Melinda (Stutzman) Schweitzer. He graduated from IMS with the class of 1958. On Dec. 30, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Judith Ann Kitkowski in South Bend, Indiana.
They lived in Iowa City for 10 years, before buying a farm and moving to rural Wellman. Larry worked as a floor installer for Kinneer’s in Kalona and Randy’s Carpet for 40 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Parkview Evangelical Church in Iowa City, Larry taught Sunday school, taught Bible studies and was a church deacon.
Larry passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona, at the age of 83.
Larry is survived by a son: David (Tami) Schweitzer of Washington; a daughter: Jill Herold of Palm Desert, California; four grandsons: Cody (Megan) Schweitzer, Alex (Kelli) Schweitzer, Gil Herold, and Grant Herold; two great-grandchildren: Will Schweitzer and Halie Schweitzer; two sisters: Elaine Hochstetler and Judy (Wayne) Beachy; three brothers: Willard Schweitzer, Sterling (Dorothea) Schweitzer and Mahlon (Kaye) Schweitzer.
He is preceded in death by his wife Judith; parents; infant brother: Verlyn Schweitzer; brother-in-law: Stanley Hochstetler; and sister-in-law: Donna Schweitzer
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, at the Friendship Center in Pleasantview. Burial will be held at a later date in the Wellman Cemetery.
