Leo C. Gislain, 87, of Wellman, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Services were Saturday, June 19, 1999, in Powell Funeral Home, Wellman, with the Reverend Doug Achterhof officiating. Burial followed in the Keota Cemetery, Keota.
Born February 19, 1912, near Kinross, he was the son of Adolph J. and Pauline (Goelner) Gislain. He attended school in Kinross, graduated from Wellman High School, and attended Iowa State Teachers College.
He was united in marriage to Freda Aileen Griffith January 24, 1931, in Cedar Rapids. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Mr. Gislain farmed in the Wellman area since 1932. He was a member of Asbury Methodist church of Wellman, a member of the John Deere Two-Cylinder Club, a 50-year member and Past Master of the Masonic Dayton Lodge #149, Scottish Rite of Cedar Rapids, and KAABA Shrine of Davenport. He started and was a leader of a 4-H club and was past president of Iowa Flying Farmers.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Paulette and David Harmon of Clarksville, Tennessee; one son and daughter-in-law, Fred L. and Pat Gislain of Naperville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Michael Harmon, Patrick Harmon, Julie Fouts, Jon Gislain and Jenny Hubbard, and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Gislain was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one infant brother, and one sister, Bernice Berg.
Memorials may be made to the Wellman Library.
