Lester F. “Les” Wieland, 82, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at Crestview Specialty Care in West Branch.  A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Riverside.  A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at a later date.  Following the funeral Mass, a time of food and fellowship will be held at St. Mary’s Church.  Memorials may be directed to the Michael J. Lester was born Feb. 27, 1940, at home in rural Lone Tree, Iowa, the son of Robert and Delpha (Stolley) Wieland. He graduated from Lone Tree High School. Les served honorably in the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Jolene Heitzman on May 11, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside.

Lester was the assistant manager for City Electric Supply in Iowa City. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the council. He was a devoted volunteer in donating blood.   Lester really loved attending/cheering/supporting all of his grandkids’ games/activities and also enjoyed fishing, golfing and working on their farm.

Lester will be deeply missed by his wife: Jolene Wieland of Iowa City; sons: Chuck (Janet) Wieland of Riverside and Chet (Mindy) Wieland of Riverside; grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Alex) Tucker, Emily Wieland, Mitchell (Madi) Wieland, Nate Wieland and Ty Wieland; great-grandchildren: Henry and Brooks Tucker; brothers: Larry (Janice) Wieland of Riverside and Rob “Dennis” (Kelly) Wieland of Sun City West, Ariz.; sister-in-law: Rose Peterson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Ronald Wieland; and nephew: Theodore Wieland.
