As a Kalona taxpayer, I’m against the school voucher proposal to provide private schools with (more) public funds. Nonpublic schools already receive public funding for transportation, textbooks, home school assistance, and other services. Our local schools have an excellent reputation but are pressed financially, and further draining of their funding will only make the situation more difficult. Public funds belong in public schools, not in private ones, and especially not to line the pockets of those who are wealthy and can well afford tuition. Keep our rural schools healthy and vibrant—say No to school vouchers.
