Dear Editor,

I just picked up a copy of the Top Ten Reasons for building a New Safety Center in Washington County, presumably distributed either by the jail committee or the sheriff’s office.

I am reading a headline stating that there are “ten” reasons, but there really are twenty, most of them “quite misleading” reasons, if you include what is on the back of the page. One item is the E-911 system…

It is 100% funded by OTHER funding and has ZERO (0)% to do with the L.O.S.T. funding. This past year, an increase in the E-911 system was approved for new and updated equipment!!! The E-911 system will operate REGARDLESS of what happens to L.O.S.T. WE taxpayers approved this!!!

State of Iowa Chief Jail Inspector Rod Kampman stated that he would reduce the prisoner count to 18 (eighteen), NOT 8 (eight), as in the “Top 11-20 Reasons.”

I REALLY have to wonder WHAT IS ON THE BACK PAGE OF THE 5 MILLION DOLLAR PLUS PRICE TAG OF THE PROPOSED SAFETY CENTER. Could it REALLY be that it COULD COST UPWARDS OF TEN MILLION DOLLARS PLUS…if you read the print on the “BACK PAGE.”

It seems to me that the “sheet” should have stated “Twenty reasons…” Afterall, there were twenty reasons listed. I REALLY have to wonder what other information is being “THWARTED”… “CORRECT” Information the public REALLY needs to know in order to be able to support this L.O.S.T. There are so MANY things “IN THE DARK” on this building project… FOR NOW… VOTE NO for the L.O.S.T. project ON NOVEMBER 16, until we know exactly what we are voting for.

Alvin C. Miller,

Wellman
