Do an illiteracy defying act: buy a book. The annual book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Kalona Public Library, provides a great opportunity to find education, entertainment and edification, all at bargain prices.
Set for Saturday, March 20, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the library at 511 C Avenue, the sale offers fiction, non-fiction titles, as well as computer software, video tapes and other items.
There is an hour Early Bird Sale from 9-10 a.m. for Friends of the Kalona Public Library members (or anyone who wishes to obtain a Friends membership).
During the sale Friends memberships may be purchased for $2 for individuals, $5 for family and $25 for a business/benefactor.
Sales proceeds are earmarked to help pay for library automation.
Book donations (and related material) may be left at the library through Friday. For more information, all the library irate at 656-3501.
Poetry
Last month, the Library held its first poetry reading, directed by storyteller Suzanne Ackerman. Results were rewarding and a second session is set for Monday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the library.
The program is open to anyone interested in hearing or speaking poetry.
