Library Friends set special night

The Friends of the Kalona Public Library will hold An Evening Out at the Library Thursday, January 28, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The program features the Iowa Mennonite School String Ensemble under the direction of Bradley Kauffman. Refreshments will be served following the performance.

“We wanted to do some programming at the library for adults,” said Mary Piper, program coordinator. “Live music in the library is something that has not been done before. If people like it, it’s possible that we might do some other recitals in the future. The musicians will set up in the children’s room where the puppet stage is now.”

IMS students who will perform are violinists Rebecca Schlabaugh and Nina Zehr, and Jesse Smith, viola. Kauffman, in addition to directing, will play cello and classical guitar.

The program will be approximately 20 minutes, and the Friends members will serve hot drinks and desserts afterward.

The library is regularly open until 8 p.m. Thursdays.

No pre-registration is required and the event is open to the public without charge. However, the Friends group will accept donations for the library’s computer automation project.

For more information, call the library at 656-3501.
