KALONA
Two days before heading to Muscatine for the River Valley Conference championship tournament, Mid-Prairie’s girls golf team shined on a brilliant day Monday at Kalona Golf Course.
Lilly Miller, a senior, posted a personal best score of 44 and tied West Liberty’s Addi Beaver for medalist honors in a 22-stroke win by the Golden Hawks.
Paiton Chittick, who had a 49, and Delani Blum, who posted a 50, also set personal bests for 9 holes.
“This was the kind of day the kids have been working so hard for and was fun as a coach to watch,” head coach Tracy McArtor said. “I’ve love to see more of the same.”
Five Golden Hawks shot in the 40s, including Olivia Swartzendruber at 45, Addison English at 46 and Morgyn Bender at 47.
Chittick shot a 49 despite scoring 10 on the 7th hole. And Bender had a 47 despite scoring 9 with 4 putts on the 6th hole.
The Golden Hawks are going after their third straight River Valley title Wednesday at the Muscatine Municipal Golf Course.
Wilton Invite
Morgyn Bender posted an 18-hole score of 94 and placed sixth individually to lead the Golden Hawks last Friday at the Wilton Invitational.
Mid-Prairie finished third in the team competition with a score of 415.
Olivia Swartzendruber had a 106 and placed 11th, Delani Blum posted a 107 for 13th place and Addison English came in 14th with a 108.
Adding to Mid-Prairie’s score was Lilly Miller, who posted a 110, and Paiton Chittick, who had a 115.
“Not the kids’ best scoring day this year,” McArtor said, “but they held their ground against some really good competition.”
Tipton the team title with a score of 392. Durant was 17 strokes back.
The same day, Mid-Prairie’s JV squad went to Williamsburg for the unofficial state JV meet, and finished fourth with a combined score of 412.
Drea McCain, a junior, scored a personal-best 97 to lead the Golden Hawks. Alena Snider posted a 103, Ariel Kaufman had a 104, Addy Kron had a 108, Annette Witthoft had a 114 and Laurin Fay shot 119.
“Most of the team had never seen Stone Creek (Golf Course) before today or played on bent grass,” McArtor said. “It was fun to see the girls play so well, even in tough conditions with steady wind, drizzle and cool temps.”
