The Kalona Lioness Club met Monday evening at the Kalonial Townhouse with 22 members and seven guests present.

The Lionesses will have a food tent at the Fall Festival. Grilled turkey sandwiches, homemade pie, coffee and pop will be served.

We had 12 1/2 pounds of pop can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. Thanks to the community for helping us to save them. Your pop can tabs can be taken to Lee’s Auto Service on C Avenue, Kalona.

We are also collecting greeting cards for the St. Phillips Children’s Ranch in Boulder, NV. They use the card fronts to make their own greeting cards to sell. The proceeds go to buy computers, a van, sports equipment and other items to benefit the kids. We are looking for cards for all occasions, birthday, Christmas, etc.

Our special guests this evening were Destiny Bell, her mom, Nancy and her grandmother, Esther. Destiny was the beneficiary of our June ice cream social. The Club raised $1,325 for her medical expenses.

Our guests speaker is Jenna Wenger from Wayland. She will speak about China, along with Beth VanWinkle from Brighton.

The girls took Bibles and a movie about Jesus to China. There were over 3,000 kids from six states who flew with them from Los Angeles to Korea and then on to Beijing, China. They took a few days to do some sightseeing. The Bibles were in Chinese. They went to various villages to pray with the Chinese people and to give them Bibles and videos. It was a great trip for them.

The picture is Darlene Miller (past president of the Lioness Club) giving the gavel to Doriene Neill, our current president. Our installation was in July.
