The Kalona Lioness Club met Monday, July 12 in the Kalonial Townhouse with 22 members and two guests present.
Dave and Rachel Stouffer of Washington did the honor of installing new officers for 1999-2000. They are Doriene Neill, president; Beth Escher, 1st vice president; Mable Miller, 2nd vice president; Mary Hochstetler, 3rd vice president; Dorothy Showalter, secretary; Leona Yoder, treasurer; Lori Hochstetler, tail twister; Leah Roberts, lion tamer; Charlotte Winborn, Bernice Webster and Mildred Swartzendruber, board of directors.
Meeting was called to order by Darlene Miller, president, and was adjourned by new-president, Doriene Neill. There are one and one-half million Lions and Lionesses in the world. This is the largest service organization. Many people are helped by the organization throughout the year, both locally and nationally.
Dave Stouffer, past district governor, explained the Melvin Jones Award. The Lions Club was founded 86 years ago in Chicago by Jones. The award is given to a person who is active and doing well in the club. Members of the club vote for the member they think deserves the grand award.
The Lioness Club will have a food booth at Fall Festival to sell grilled turkey sandwiches, homemade pie, coffee and pop.
The Club would like old greeting cards, Christmas, birthday, all occasion, for St. Jude’s Children’s Ranch. They are also saving General Mills box tops for education for St. Jude’s.
Pop tabs are collected for the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City. They may be given to any Lioness member or be dropped off at Lee’s Auto Service on C Avenue.
