Memorial services are Tuesday, October 12 in Bellevue Heights Baptist Church, Sun City, with the Reverends Boyd L. Baker and Gary L. Reif officiating.

A memorial service in the United Christian and Baptist Church, Kalona, at a future date will be announced.

Born November 8, 1912, in Kalona, he was the son of Ervin and Nita (Edmundson) Reif. He graduated from Kalona High School and earned a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in business and a Master of Art’s Degree in marketing from the University of Iowa.

Logan E. Reif, 86, of Sun City, Arizona, formerly of Kalona, died Monday, October 4, 1999, following a short illness.

Born November 8, 1912, in Kalona, he was the son of Ervin and Nita (Edmundson) Reif. He graduated from Kalona High School and earned a Bachelor of Art’s Degree in business and a Master of Art’s Degree in marketing from the University of Iowa.

Mr. Reif married Helen Louise Osborn June 26, 1934 in Iowa City. After her death he married Anne Feige in 1996.

He owned and operated Reif’s Family Center in Kalona for forty years until his retirement in 1974.

Mr. Reif was instrumental in the formation of the Kalona Rotary Club in the early 1950s. He remained active in Rotary all his life and served as Iowa District 600 Rotary Governor in 1971-1972. He was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He served three terms on the Mid-Prairie school board from 1965-1974.

A member of the Kalona Baptist Church and, after federation, the United Christian and Baptist Church in Kalona. After moving to Sun City, Arizona, he became a member of Bellevue Heights Baptist Church. Mr. Reif was an adult Bible teacher for more than 50 years.

A mineral and gemstone collector for more than thirty years, his hobby took him on numerous trips around the world. His gemstone creation of “The Holy City”, a depiction of the Holy City in gold and gemstones on a walnut board as envisioned by John in Revelations 21 and 22, and his mineral collection were donated to the Reif Mineral Museum at the Kalona Historical Village.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Barb Reif, Peoria, Illinois, William and Nancy Reif, Tempe, Arizona, Steve and Nita Reif, Kalona, and Douglas and Deb, Bridgeport, West Virginia; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, April 23, 1995, and his second wife, Anne, May, 1999.

Memorials may be made to Bellevue Heights Baptist Church of the Kalona Historical Society.
