“That’s Just the Way It Was,” by Donna Schuessler Bean in collaboration with sister Joyce Schuessler Werden, is an autobiographical account of Bean’s life, beginning with her childhood growing up on a farm near Lone Tree during the Great Depression. It was a different world, where men had jobs and women stayed home with the children to cook and clean, but Donna set out to become an elementary school teacher, which she successfully combined with motherhood – an undertaking not without its challenges. She retired in 1995.
Donna and Joyce will share stories from the book sponsored by Lone Tree Historical Society on Wednesday, June 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. at United Presbyterian Church, 110 W. Elm Street, Lone Tree. All are welcome to attend the free event; desserts and beverages will be served, and donations are welcome.
