Lone Tree bats heat up in final innings at Danville

The buzz was building in the Danville dugout as the Bears put up four runs in the second inning of a SEISC cross over matchup with Lone Tree.

The winless Danville softball team, who had scored just three runs in nine games, was playing its best softball of the season as it pulled within a run of the Lady Lions at 7-6 through four innings.

But there would be no upset on Wednesday, as the Lone Tree responded with 13 runs over the final two innings. The Lady Lions finished with 19 hits and three home runs in the 20-8 victory.

“I think it was just the girls seeing themselves hit the ball and hit line drives,” Lone Tree coach Jovonte Squiers said about the offensive breakout. “That kind of kept them up and made them really realize, all of us can hit the ball here. So we’ve just got to get our head on it and drive it somewhere.”

Arlie Lorack doubled twice and homered twice for Lone Tree, driving in six runs. Her 2-run blast to left field put the Lions ahead 5-1 in the second inning.

Leading by just one run in the fifth inning, Lila Bell drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch to start a four-run inning. Kayleigh Rundlett drove in two runs with a single, and Lorack hit another one over the fence to increase the lead to 11-6.

Lone Tree senior Kinely Hayes hit a three-run homer as the Lions added nine more runs in the final inning.

“I was really just keeping my head on it,” she said. “It felt good, it was taking me a while to get there but it felt good.”

Hayes was also the winning pitcher and was one of six Lady Lions to finish with multiple hits. She went 2-for-4 at the plate and drew a walk. Avery Grover and Lila Bell each had two hits as well. Bell doubled in the seventh inning and scored her third run of the game to put Lone Tree on top 20-6.

Rundlett was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hogan Eden was 3-for-5 with two RBIs as well.

Alex Dautremont pushed a run across with a sacrifice bunt in the first inning and singled in the fifth.

Lone Tree improved to 8-9 for the season as Danville lost its 10 straight.

Lone Tree 13, Hillcrest 1

The Lady Lions scored 13 runs on nine hits in less than three innings during a 13-1 win over Hillcrest on Thursday.

ALorack was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs at the plate, and allowed just one unearned run on two hits to earn the win in the circle as well. Ellen Carow was 2-for-3 and scored twice, while Bell was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Knock had a hit and an RBI.

Lone Tree scored five in the first inning and seven more in the second to take a 12-1 lead to the third. Grover drove in the game-ending run with a double to center field.

Grace Miller hit a leadoff double for the Ravens in the second inning and scored on a passed ball. Malia Yoder doubled in the first inning and reached base on an error in the third.
