Lone Tree got timely hitting from its seniors in a 13-1 win at Mediapolis on Friday. Avery Grover and Arlie Lorack each drove in three runs as the Lady Lions defeated the Bullettes in five innings.
Lone Tree (3-4) led just 2-0 in the second inning when Lorack stepped in the batter’s box with the bases loaded and two outs.
“I get excited, I think of it as another opportunity to score runs for my team,” Lorack said about the situation. “But when I step in the box, I just completely zone in. And I'm looking for the best pitch to get more RBIs for the team.”
Her double to deep center field cleared the bases. After a wild pitch, Lorack scored on a passed ball to put Lone Tree up 6-0.
Grover’s two-run single in the fifth inning added the runs that put Lone Tree in a position to end things early. Mediapolis loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning, but Lorack struck out the next batter and the Bullettes would not score.
“That was really important,” Lorack said about reaching the run rule. “We played so many games this past week. I had to take a pause to really focus on myself and try and hit my spots and work my spins well, so I could give my team an easy pop fly or grounder.”
Alex Dautremont had a hit, was hit by pitch twice, and scored twice. Kayleigh Rundlett had a hit, walked twice, and was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
Alyssa Knock and Lila Bell each had a hit and drew a walk for Lone Tree as well. Kinley Hayes walked twice and scored a run. Hogan Eden walked and scored and Ellen Carow was hit by a pitch and scored.
Vivian Zaruba stole a base and scored twice as a courtesy runner and Bella Pourroy scored once as a pinch runner.
“I think we communicated very well, we stayed up and nothing brought us down,” Lorack said. “Yeah, we had a few errors, but we just shook it off, and I think we played great, actually.”
Lone Tree 7, Holy Trinity 4
Kayleigh Rundlett was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in Lone Tree’s 7-4 win over Holy Trinity on Tuesday.
“We played a solid game,” Lone Tree coach Jovonte Squiers said. “The girls showed emotion when big plays happened, and everybody stayed engaged even with a 30-minute delay.”
The Crusaders scored three runs in the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4, but the Lions responded with three in the next inning to win the cross-divisional matchup.
Lorack allowed just one earned run on seven hits and six walks, while striking out nine.
“Arlie threw a good game again,” Squiers said. She had her pitches working for her and the outfield and infield played a solid game. We had one rough inning with errors that came with bases loaded, but other than that I was proud of the way girls handled it and kept their heads up.”
Dautremont was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Carow also doubled in the win. Bell, Buser, Grover and Eden each had a hit as well.
Louisa-Muscatine 17, Lone Tree 6
Ellen Carow doubled twice and drove in two runs as Lone Tree fell to conference-leading Falcons on Thursday. The Lions trailed 15-3 in the sixth inning before scoring four runs to extend the game. Lorack also had two hits, including a double. Rundlett and Hayes each had a hit in the loss.
