M-P boys lose in overtime battle

Coach Don Showalter’s Hawks just couldn’t pull off a win Friday Dec. 3 against Clear Creek-Amana.

Mid-Prairie had a chance to seal the game at the end of regulation play by making a free-throw with no time on the clock, but missed both free-throws sending the game into overtime.

At the end of the four minute overtime, Clear Creek-Amana defeated Mid-Prairie, 63-57.

Coach Showalter said, “We had many opportunities to win the game from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.”

The Hawks shot 20-34 from the foul line, shooting only 59 percent.

Mid-Prairie played without junior starter Seth Fisher, who was unable to play because of injury.

The Hawks started out the first quarter cold. They shot only 29 percent from the floor.

“I thought we played very hard and came back strong from a 13-0 deficit to start the game,” said coach Showalter.

Sophomore Adam Kos ended the Hawks’ shooting drought by making a three point play. At the end of the first quarter the Hawks trailed by six points, 13-7.

Mid-Prairie tried to battled back in the second quarter. They headed to the locker room down by eight points, 29-21.

The Hawks started a run in the fourth quarter but lost in overtime.

Senior Brent Showalter led all scorers with 16 points and grabbed 13 boards while sophomore Adam Kos added 12 points. Junior Jared Freel ripped down 10 boards.

Senior Tyrell Gingerich led the Hawk’s offense with four assists.

“We will continue to get much better and, hopefully, we learned a lot tonight.”

Mid-Prairie will travel to Iowa City Regina, Dec. 7.

Sophomore boys win 44-41

Mid-Prairie sophomore boys came up victorious against Clear Creek-Amana, 44-41.

Going into half-time, the Hawks led only by four points, 20-16.

The Hawks made a run in the third quarter ending the quarter with a ten point lead.

Clear Creek-Amana fought back in the fourth quarter but could not pull away. Sophomore Tristan Gingerich hit a key shot at the 1:40 mark.

Clear Creek-Amana was called for an intentional foul with less than a minute left to go.

When the buzzer sounded, the Hawks defeated the Clippers, 44-41.

Sophomore David Frederick led the Hawks with 12 points while sophomore Neal Campbell added eight points. On the defensive end, Campbell grabbed six rebounds. Following close behind was sophomore Cole Kempf with five boards.
