Finishing a year only one percent over budget is not considered bad, but Mid-Prairie did better than that. The fiscal 1998-99 budget was one percent under, meaning the district spent only 99 percent of its allocation, not l0l percent as previously reported.
“The adjustments we made at the year’s end had quite an effect,” explained Business Manager Doug Slaubaugh, adding that “cutting out staff overtime and a bus route in April also had an impact.”
He cited “the warmer winter which resulted in lower utility costs and lower gasoline prices” as another help.
