Ends CC-A 61-game conference roll
Mid-Prairie’s softball team etched itself in Eastern Iowa Hawkeye Conference history last Tuesday.
A seven-run sixth inning rally lifted the Golden Hawks to an 8-6 win over Clear Creek-Amana in the opening game of a doubleheader at Tiffin. With that win, the Clipperettes’ 61-game conference winning streak fell by the wayside.
The Clipperettes came back strong in the nightcap. Freshman pitcher Jackie Sorensen shutout the Golden Hawks 9-0 for a split.
Solon
M-P was just as impressive the next evening at Solon. M-P increased their conference win total to eight with a sweep of the Lady Spartans.
Junior pitcher B.J. Duwa was in on both victories. She pitched all 14 innings, limiting Solon to just five runs.
A ground ball by Duwa kicked off the scoring in the opener as two runs came across in the third inning with a Solon error on the play. Solon trimmed the lead to 2-1, but M-P added three more runs in the fifth as a Solon error, a wild pitch and an RBI single by Jenny Miller plated the tallies.
M-P took charge early in the second game. The Golden Hawks scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in their 9-4 win.
Andria Klostermann drove home a run in game two, while Duwa and Hannah Berg each drove in two. Berg also tripled and doubled in the nightcap.
Wilton
The Golden Hawks ended their impressive week by sweeping Wilton on the road this past Friday.
M-P hosted Durant and Williamsburg in back-to-back doubleheaders Monday and Tuesday.
