The Mid Prairie girls basketball team couldn’t pull off the win, Dec. 7 against Iowa City Regina.
Coach Deb Kahler said, “We did a good job of running one offense the first half and containing, but gave up 11 offense rebounds.”
Iowa City Regina capitalized on M-P’s mistakes. They led at half-time by two points, 22-20.
“In the second half, we self-destructed,” said Kahler.
The Lady Hawks committed 15 turnovers, mostly uncontested.
“We are hurting ourselves on offense, not handling the ball well and not setting up our defender to get open,” Coach Kahler said that her team did a better job in the second half allowing only five rebounds.
Sophomore Hannah Berg led the Lady Hawks with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore Sarah Larsen stole the ball five times and added five boards. Junior Amber Ihrig contributed six rebounds.
Senior B.J. Duwa and senior Jamie Krantz led the offense with two assists apiece.
This loss brings Mid-Prairie to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
M-P girls defeat Durant
The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team improved their overall record to 3-3, Dec. 10 with a win against Durant, 47-35.
Coach Deb Kahler was pleased with her team’s effort.
“It was a balanced game for our kids.”
The Hawks played 12 players.
“Our defensive effort has gotten much better. The girls are understanding the concepts as to where they should be.”
“We still need to work on the boards, but the second half we did not allow Durant to score of an offensive rebound.”
Mid-Prairie out rebounded Durant 36-29.
“It was a good game for our young kids.”
Kahler said that this win should help the younger player’s confidence.
Sophomore Sarah Larsen led the Lady Hawks with 14 points and four steals.
Freshman Hannah Berg grabbed 10 rebounds while Nicole Bontrager led the offense with two assists.
The Lady Hawks are currently 2-2 in conference action.
