The Mid-Prairie High School Jazz Band finished its final competition with a first: it won a 3rd place trophy in the Southeast Iowa District Jazz Contest at Iowa City’s West High School.
The rest of the year wasn’t so bad, either, with the band getting a Division II rating (excellent) at the state jazz contest and taking 2nd place at the Indian Hills Jazz Fest February 27. During that competition, Bob Domsic received the outstanding soloists award for his alto sax solo on Bittersweet Romance.
During the district contest in Iowa City, four members received recognition for outstanding musicianship for jazz solos. They are Adam Casper, guitar; Lacey Curtis, trombone; Tiffany Curtis, piano and Domsic, alto sax. Director for the band is M-P High School music teacher David Kunz.
