Born September 5, 1910, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Orr and Alma Leona (Sigler) Mapel. She graduated from Washington High School in 1928.

Margery E. Murphy, 88, of Wellman, died Sunday, August 8, 1999, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Services were Wednesday, August 11, in Asbury United Methodist Church, Wellman, with the Reverend Doug Achterhof officiating. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery.
Born September 5, 1910, in Washington County, she was the daughter of Orr and Alma Leona (Sigler) Mapel. She graduated from Washington High School in 1928.
She married James H. Murphy August 20, 1930, in Washington. She lived on her family farm all her life.
Mrs. Murphy was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the HNS Club.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Don Bush, and one son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Nancy Murphy, all of Wellman; six grandchildren, Karen Christner of Kalona, Janice Groff of Millersburg, Brenda Hershberger and Carol Mullen, both of Wellman, Tracy Markson of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Patrick Murphy of Phoenix, Arizona; two step-grandchildren, Chris Pearson of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Andy Pearson of Wellman; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James in 1994.
Memorials may be made to Asbury Methodist Church and the Wellman Senior Center.
