Marla Jean Meyer, 81, of Riverside, died Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Parkview Manor in Wellman.
The family will be present to receive friends and celebrate Marla’s life from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington. Interment will take place at the Holy Trinity Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for Iowa City Hospice or Hospice of Washington County. Marla was born June 27, 1942, in Ainsworth, the daughter of Clair George and Gladys Mary (Slaughter) Gerot. She attended school in Riverside and graduated from Riverside High School. Marla was united in marriage to William “Bill” Meyer March 10, 1963.
Marla and Bill were lifelong farmers. Marla lived a life filled with purpose and joy; finding happiness in the simple things like tending to her gardens and flowerbeds. Her passions for sewing, crafting, music, cooking, and canning foods from her garden were just some of her hobbies. She had an extraordinary gift of turning strangers into friends, spreading kindness wherever she went. She loved going for drives in her Mustang convertible. Above all she loved her family and friends, she enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible and teaching the younger generations her skills.
She is survived by her son: Daniel (Audrey) Meyer of Walford, Iowa; daughter: Dina McFarland (Robert Pierce) of Riverside; five grandchildren: Amber McFarland (Gavino Rocha) of West Liberty, Samantha Meyer of Davenport, Tyler McFarland of Riverside, Stephanie Meyer (TJ Edmunds) of Cedar Rapids, and Breanna McFarland (Kirby Bender) of Rock Island; four great-grandchildren: Quintyn, Addysyn, Brynlyn and Jozalyn Rocha of West Liberty; sisters: Patricia Jirsa of Iowa City and Cheryl Strabala of Lone Tree; many sisters and brothers-in-law; along with many treasured nieces and nephews.
Marla was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bill Meyer in 2023; son-in-law: Kevin McFarland; sister-in-law: Elaine Kos; brothers-in-law: Larry Jirsa, Joseph Kos and Denny Ordway.
