Marvin was born July 4, 1937, in Muscatine, the son of Lawrence George and Mildred Alice (Curry) Klebe.  Marvin graduated from Muscatine High School, Class of 1956. Following graduation, he attended Muscatine Community College (1958) and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He enlisted in the National Guard from 1960-1966. He met his wife Maureen (McGuire) while serving in the National Guard in the fall of 1961 while he was stationed in Milwaukee, WI. They had a long distance courtship that started in September of 1961 and ended at the altar on August 21, 1965.

Marvin was an active member of the community of Lone Tree. After getting settled in Lone Tree, he was an assistant softball coach, before the school sponsored the sport, and worked with the boy scouts. He aided Maureen with Girl Scouts, Future Homemakers, and 4H activities. Over the years he was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State Cyclone fan and supporter of the school athletics, taught catechism, sponsored and chaperoned skating parties, and worked with church youth groups. He was an active Chamber of Commerce, Old Settlers Association and Lone Tree Historical Society member.  He belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church and helped support their events. Marvin was also very involved in the Lions Club and supported the importance of Kids Sight.

Marvin loved agriculture and shared his family farm with his brother in Muscatine. Marvin started his career path working in fertilizer and feed sales. Due to the economics of Ag Business, he went to work in 1981 with the City of Muscatine Waste Water Treatment Plant for 22 years and 12 days before he retired in 2003. He worked swing shift and was able to continue selling seed corn to farmers for various years. He loved being able to better provide for his family and still connect with farmers. Marvin loved to be outside tinkering and scrapping things.

Marvin was a calm, cool, and collected guy. He always had a smirk on his face and a quiet sense of humor that would come out unexpectedly. He enjoyed helping people and will be missed by his family and community.

Marvin and Maureen started their family in December of 1970 when they adopted their daughter Amy. They completed their family in 1973 with the adoption of their son Kevin.  Marvin was proud of his children and often boasted he got 2 of the best because he got to pick them out himself. He attended many games, concerts, and activities over the years. Marvin loved being a grandpa and watching his grandchildren’s activities and them growing up.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Maureen (McGuire) Klebe; daughter, Amy Beth Shalla of Lone Tree; son, Kevin and his wife Jodi of Riverside; five grandchildren, Zachary (Kristina) Shalla, Casey Shalla, Trey Shalla, Madison Klebe, Cullen Klebe; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Shalla. He is predeceased by his parents and brother, Gary Klebe of Muscatine.

A special thank you to Taia Willhoile, Lori Tate, Zach, Kristina and Kaylee Shalla, and Compassus of Washington for supporting his wishes to stay at home. We could not have done this without you.
