Born June 21, 1916 in Holbrook, she was the daughter of Francis Michael and Margaret (Duffy) Kinney.
Mary Katherine Smith, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, January 13, 2000, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness.
Services were Saturday, January 15, in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City, with the Reverend Patrick Hilgendorf officiating. Burial was in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oxford.
Born June 21, 1916 in Holbrook, she was the daughter of Francis Michael and Margaret (Duffy) Kinney.
She married Andrew R. Smith November 26, 1941 in St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Iowa City.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Altar & Rosary and National Catholic Society of Foresters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Jane and Leo Marion of Cedar Rapids and Julie and Mike Struzynski of Oxford; three sons, Paul Smith of Cedar Rapids, Bob Smith and his wife Regi of Iowa City and Bill Smith and his friend Evelyn of Tama; twenty-one grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a son-in-law, Marvin Hammen of Keota; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Maxine and Vernon Smith of Solon, Darlene Bolten of North Liberty, and Louise and Kenneth “Fritz” Schropp of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, seven brothers; two sisters; one daughter, Betty Hammen; two grandchildren, Michelle Smith and David Boxwell; and one great granddaughter, Ashley L. Smith.
A general fund has been established in Mrs. Smith’s name.
