IOWA CITY

Iowa City West hosted over 50 schools for the Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival on Saturday, April 13.

Here, Mid-Prairie and Lone Tree would have a chance to showcase their talents.

Mid-Prairie

Senior Danielle Hostetler is no stranger to stiff competition, taking her talents to state all four years with Mid-Prairie’s track team. Here in Iowa City, Hostetler finished second in the 1,500 meter run, just a half-second behind the first-place finisher Noelle Steines of Tipton.

Hostetler’s time was 4:47.35.

Hostetler was one of three second place finishes for Mid-Prairie. In the 3,000 meter run, Mid-Prairie freshman Brooklyn Stutzman finished second with a time of 10:49.83.

In the 3,200 meter run, junior Emmett Swartzentruber finished second place with a time of 9:49.52.

Additionally, two Mid-Prairie athletes finished in third place. Sophomore Jovi Evans finished third in the 100 meter dash as the top three racers crossed the finish line close by. Evan’s finished with a time of 12.71.

In the long jump, senior Emma Lueck’s best was 16-11.5, good enough for third place.

Lone Tree

Lone Tree’s track & field team possesses effective relay teams and in Iowa City, the Lone Tree racers found success in the 4x200 meter relay, finishing in second place with a time of 1:50.22, a second behind Waterloo West who finished in first.

Lone Tree’s relay teams star juniors Vivian Zaruba, Rylee Shield, Cate Sexton and sophomore Ava Christofferson.

Lone Tree’s second best finish came in the 800 medley relay where Lone Tree finished fifth with a time of 1:56.99.
