DURANT
They had to wait until the final scorecard came in but once it did it signaled another victory for the Golden Hawk gals.
Traveling to Durant to play in the Wildcats Invitational against some challenging opponents, Mid-Prairie stood tall in the end, placing 1st out of seven schools.
“Another solid win for the girls at our first visit to the Durant Invitational and against some solid competition that we don’t normally see,” Mid-Prairie coach Tracy McArtor said. “The outcome wasn’t known until the very last scorecard came in and that just added to the excitement.”
Mid-Prairie placed 1st with a score of 384, just edging out Tipton, who was the runner-up with 387. The hosting school, Durant, took 3rd place with 419.
“I was really happy to see another team score in the 300’s. It was another day of great team play,” coach McArtor said.
Leading the Golden Hawks was Madi Davidson. The senior golfer shot a 90 to place 4th in the individual rankings.
“Davidson had another good day and worked through some swing issues early to post a score of 50 on her front nine but came back strong cutting 10 shots off that score for a great 40 on the second nine,” coach McArtor said.
The next highest placing Golden Hawk was freshman Morgyn Bender. Bender carded a 97 to place 5th.
“Bender showed no nerves for her first official invitational, posting a round of 49-48 for team runner-up,” coach McArtor said. “Speaking to Morgyn throughout the day, she was calm and relaxed and played like a veteran.”
Finishing one stroke from each other was Addison English and Elliot Debler. English shot a 98 and Debler shot a 99 for them to finish in 7th and 8th place respectively.
Mid-Prairie 200, West Liberty 229
Last Monday Mid-Prairie went on the road to pick up a conference win over West Liberty.
The senior and freshman duo of Elliot Debler and Morgyn Bender led the Golden Hawks against the Comets, finishing on top of the leaderboards with a one, two finish.
“Elliott had a solid round with her score of 48 and Freshman Morgyn Bender was close behind with another good round of 49,” Mid-Prairie coach Tracy McArtor said. “Both girls have been pretty steady as of late and it’s great to see.”
Their teammates followed close behind, taking the next four spots. Gabi Robertson shot a 51, Olivia Swartzendruber and Madi Davison both carded a 52, and Addison English ended with 54.
