Mid-Prairie sets new season bests at 18-hole invitational

The Mid-Prairie girls have seen steady improvement on the golf course this spring, and that continued at the 18-hole invitational hosted by the Golden Hawks at the Kalona Golf Club on Thursday.

Mid-Prairie took third place out of ten teams with a team score of 407. West Branch edged the Golden Hawks by two strokes for second place. Williamsburg was the meet champion with a total of 393, led by medalist Teegan Schaffer’s 88.

Mid-Prairie finished ahead of 3A Fairfield and Keokuk with 412 and 425.

"The girls had another great day and continue to improve all around,” Mid-Prairie coach Tracy McArtor said. “They set new nine-hole scoring marks with a 206 team score on the front nine and a 201 on the second nine holes. As well there were many individual PR's today by the kids and was a big confidence builder.”

The Golden Hawks were led by sophomore Gabi Roberston, freshman Addison English, and sophomore Madi Davidson, who shot 101, 102, and 103, respectively. Robertson shot a 51 on the front nine and a 50 on the back nine to take ninth individually. Junior Alexa Huber finished with a total of 107 to round out the Golden Hawk scoring.

“The girls keep making great progress on the course and that's a testament as to how hard they are working in practice,” McArtor said. “A nice change was also having a perfect weather day to finally play a meet. Sunshine and calm winds made things a lot more enjoyable for the kids and the coaches."

Madelyn Bender bounced back from a tough stretch on the front nine to shoot a team-best 48 over the final nine holes. She finished with 110 and Elliot Debler carded a 114.
