Four groups from Mid-Prairie High School’s Group Speech team received All-State nominations for their performances at the State Large Group Speech Contest in Cedar Rapids. Two of the four groups received the honor of performing at the All-State Festival in Ames, which took place on Saturday, February 18.
One of the performing All-State groups was the Musical Theatre titled, “Spamalot.” Juniors Avery Slaubaugh, Jack Greiner, and Haydon Bailey performed the songs “I’m All Alone”, and “Diva’s Lament (Whatever Happened to My Part?)”. The judges were assuredly impressed by the group’s astounding vocals, and hilarious acting.
The other performing All-State group was the Improvisation group, “Tall and Small,” named after the two performers Kenadi Fay (Tall) and Jillian Clark (Small). These two have made their way to All-State by coming up with exciting scenarios in a short span of time and relying on each other for that impeccable comedic timing.
The groups receiving a nonperforming All-State nomination were the Ensembles, “Weekend at Bundy’s” and “Amanda Freezes Time”. The cast of “Weekend at Bundy’s” was Avery Slaubaugh, Haydon Bailey, Jacob Carrillo, and Caroline Schrader. The cast of “Amanda Freezes Time” was Diego Sanchez, Abby Kraus, Daniel Rodgers, Harlie Gehling, Isabelle Duvall, Jillian Clark, and Isadora Goode.
All these students were honored at the All-State Festival on Saturday and received a medal to signify their achievement.
The Mid-Prairie High School Speech Teams are coached by Christine Meader and Lisa Helmuth.
Now that the Group Speech season has come to an end, the Mid-Prairie Individual Speech team is preparing for their district competition on Saturday, February 25.
