With the regular season nearing its end, Highland hosted its annual home track and field meet last Monday and the visiting Golden Hawks flew to the top of the leaderboards with both the Mid-Prairie boys and girls teams claiming team titles.

The Golden Hawk gals conquered the seven team field by earning six first place finishes to finish at the top of the pack with a score of 136. Tipton was the runner-up with 115.

Mid-Prairie junior Jovi Evans was the fastest on the track in the 100m, taking first in 12.84. In the 200m Jovi Evans was the runner-up in 26.45 as her sister, freshman Jeorgia Evans, dashed to first in 25.74.

The strong young core for the Hawks impressed yet again as freshman Rachel Hostetler and sophomore Brooklyn Stutzman placed first and second respectively in the 1500m with times of 4:54.64 and 5:00.52. 

The throwing events also went the way of the Hawks as junior Harper Pacha placed first in the shot put with a throw of 35-11.50 and senior Dessa Poll placed first in the discus event with a heave of 115-05. Pacha was also the runner-up in the discus with her best toss traveling 110-06.

The Mid-Prairie boys ended the night with a first place team score of 184, Runner-up belonged to Keokuk who scored 107. 

Greatly contributing to the first place score was Mid-Prairie sweeping the jumping and throwing events.

Earning gold for the Hawks in these field events were Thomas Lueck in the long jump (20-03.75), Josh Turner in the high jump (6-00), Burke Berry in the shot put (55-00), and Kaden Kos in the discus (153-11). 

In the 100m, Mid-Prairie freshman Ryan Henry was the winner in a field of 22, claiming the gold in 11.30.

Jayse Yoder, a senior, doubled up on gold performances by placing first in the 200m (23.50) and in the 400m (50.88).

In a couple of long distance running events, Thomas Flynn claimed the top spot in the 1600m with a time of 4:48.94 and Even Reschly ran to first in the 3200m with a time of 13:40.58.

Highland results

On senior night, both Highland track and field teams placed sixth in the final team standings with the girls scoring 57 and the boys scoring 36.

  Notable finishes for the Huskies on the girls side were Kamryn Fink capturing the runner-up spot in the 100m (13.24), Mayia Singbeil placing second in the 100m hurdles (17.76), and Grace Bombei racing to second place in the 3000m (12:44.31).

The top performances for the Highland boys came from Tristan Kleopfer taking second place in the 3200m (13:45.73), William Dunbar placing third in the 100m (11.82), and Cayden Day sprinting to third in the 200m (24.33).

Near the middle of the meet after the 200m event, Highland took time to honor seniors Dunbar, Day, Brixton Rust, Hailey Nestor, and Lilly Barre.
