Heading outdoors for the first time this season, the Mid-Prairie track and field teams traveled south to show off their skills in the Mt. Pleasant Co-Ed Relays last Thursday.
Freshman once again shined for the Golden Hawk gals as both Jeorgia Evans and Rachel Hostetler took first in multiple events.
Starting with the long jump, Evans went above and beyond the competition with a winning jump of 17-02. In a field of 15 no other jumper reached 16 feet with runner-up being awarded to Washington freshman Jaslyn Villa (15-11).
Evans also showed off her speed by placing first in the 200m (26.13) and second in the 100m (12.43).
In a long distance running event Hostetler along with sophomore teammate Brooklyn Stutzman took the top spots. Hostetler placed first in 10:38 and Stutzman was the runner-up in 10:44.
It was another one-two finish for Mid-Prairie in the 800m with Hostetler crossing the finish first in 2:24 and Kendal Landstrum crossed next to secure second place with a time of 2:25.
Taking the top spot in the 1600m relay with a time of 4:39 was the Mid-Prairie quartet of Stutzman, Kyrie Poll, Myli Hershberger, Sophie Miller.
Other top three finishes for Mid-Prairie came from Landstrum in the 1500m (3rd, 5:13), Sophie Miller in the 100m (2nd, 16.85), Ruby Miller in the 400m hurdles (3rd, 1:15), Tessa Bombei in the high jump (3rd, 4-10), and Dessa Poll (2nd, 109-03) along with Harper Pacha (3rd, 107-01) in the discus throw.
The Mid-Prairie boys also impressed at Mt. Pleasant, especially when it came to relay races.
Breaking a meet record, the four person team of Emmett Swartzentruber, Thomas Flynn, Jayse Yoder, and Preston Yutzy took first place in 8:12.21, just edging out the runner-up Iowa City High who posted a time of 8:12.67.
On top of being a part of a winning relay team, Swartzentruber placed first in the 1600m (4:32) and Yoder came away with a first place finish in the 800m (2:02).
First place once again belonged to the Hawks in the 1600m relay as the team of Yutzy, Cash Brown, Kenrick Kos, and Nolan Jergens crossed the finish line with a time of 3:47.
A pair of second place finishes were earned by Burke Berry in the shot put (51-11.25) and Ryan Henry in the 200m (23.14). Henry also placed third in the 100m (11.14). Another third place finish came from Max Swartzentruber in the 3200m (10:41).
