SIGOURNEY
An attempted scoring drive in the last minute of the game Friday night came up just short for Mid-Prairie.
The Golden Hawks, rallying from a 41-28 deficit in the fourth quarter against Sigourney Keota, closed the gap to 41-35 following a blocked punt and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Brady Weber to Cobi Hershberger.
One final possession led to a pair of incomplete passes and a 41-35 loss, the third straight setback to open the season.
Sigourney Keota’s Kale Clarahan ran for five touchdowns and 259 yards. The last of his scoring runs, a 57-yarder in the first minute of the fourth quarter, put the Cobras ahead by 13 points.
Weber passed for a career-high 200 yards and 4 TDs. Dylan Henry caught two of those scoring passes, and Hershberger and Kaden Kos each caught one.
Sophomore running back Hudson Ehrenfelt rushed for 79 yards on 15 carries.
The Golden Hawks head into district play next Friday, when they host West Burlington (2-1) at 7:30 p.m.
