Golf was back on the menu for the Ravens as they opened up a brand new season with a conference dual meet against Columbus last Thursday.
Splitting the duals, the Hillcrest boys convincingly defeated Columbus, 172-226, and the Hillcrest girls fell to the Wildcats, 223-268.
In the boys contest, both medalist and runner-up medalist spots belonged to Hillcrest. Rowan Miller shot a one over par 37 to end up on top of the individual leader board and teammate Liam Schrock earned the runner-up spot with a 41.
Ravens firmly occupied the top seven placements as every spot was taken by a Hillcrest golfer except for 4th place which was earned by Columbus senior Ryan Coil who ended with 48.
Rounding out the Hillcrest scoring, Ethan Yoder placed third (46), Lawson Schrock tied for fourth (48), Matthew Chalupa placed sixth (49), and Rylan Good placed seventh (52).
On the girls side, the top three placements went to the Wildcats. Medalist honors was won by Kinlee Brown who shot a 53, Lily Coil shot a 54 to earn the runner-up medalist honors, and third place went to Hailey Welligton who ended with 56.
The Ravens were led by Ava Miller with the sophomore tying for fourth, along with Columbus’ Aracely Garza, with a 60. Hillcrest’s Brynna O’Rourke placed sixth with 66 and teammates Izzy Frederick and Claire Withrow both posted scores of 71 to tie for eight.
Hillcrest vs Wapello
In their second competition of the season it was another split for the Ravens as they went on the road to battle Wapello in a dual last Monday.
The Hillcrest boys shot even better than they did in their previous competition, as they defeated Wapello, 170-192. The Hillcrest girls also showed improvement from their season debut but ultimately fell to Wapello, 211-248.
Rowan Miller and Liam Schrock both shot 36 to led the Hillcrest boys with meadlist honors.
The girls were led by Claire Withrow and Ava Miller who both shot 59 to tie for fifth place.
Up next for the Hillcrest golf teams is battling WACO at home on April 11.
