Miller-Meeks gives harmful information to the public she represents

Posted

I as a retired family practice physician have some questions regarding physician politicians who use their public forum to give harmful information to those they represent.

As reported in the Cedar Rapids Gazette on September 14, 2021, U.S. Rep Mariannette Miller-Meeks shared a fake news article falsely claiming President Joe Biden’s administration withheld health benefits from unvaccinated veterans.

In July Miller-Meeks said children do not spread COVID-19. In an interview on Iowa Press she falsely stated that the reinfection rate was 47% among those fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This is much lower.

She appeared on Fox News criticizing the COVID rapid home test claiming it is not 100% accurate. None of the rapid tests are as accurate as the PCR tests. And she knows this because no test is 100% accurate.

As a licensed ophthalmologist does she have a privilege allowing her to practice outside her field of ophthalmology?

A physician should first do no harm.

Please investigate these concerns.  I’d like answers to these ethical questions.
