Following a pre-trial conference Thursday, March 13, the trial date for Reuven Miller, 39, of Kalona, charged with first degree arson, a Class B felony, first degree harassment and interference with official acts, was moved to 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, in Washington County District Court.
The charges resulted from an incident that occurred January 28. Miller told law enforcement that he had a bomb in a Kalona residence and used it to try to set the house on fire with his father still inside. The devise contained fireworks, and the official police report noted nine exploded but did not ignite the house.
Miller, subsequently arrested and taken into custody in Iowa City on two Washington County warrants, was charged with arson, first degree harassment and interference with official acts. Bond was set at $100,000 and he was remanded to the Washington County Jail.
Following a written arraignment February 27, and a request for speedy trial, the initial trial had been set for March 25.
