More activities slated for Christmas

Plans for Kalona’s Old Fashioned Christmas continue to grow with the involvement of school children and more businesses in the activities, chairman Ron Slechta announced this week.

Students in grades kindergarten to 5th grade have volunteered to decorate the one-room country school at the Kalona Historical Village. Latta, Harris, Hanon & Penningroth, LLP, has volunteered to decorate the Log Cabin. Weathervane and Cyndi Koehler of Caldwell Banker Realtors have also offered assistance.

Others decorating the Village include: JW’s Food, General Store; Kalona News, Post Office; Hills Bank Kalona, Depot, downstairs; Kalona Realty, Depot, upstairs; Woodin Wheel and Kalona Antique, Wahl Museum; Freedom Security Bank, Wahl House, inside; Reif’s Family Store, Wahl Museum, outside plus Nativity sign for Grout Church; Kalona Oil, Grout Church; Kinneer Home Furnishings, Christmas trees for grounds.

Others are needed to help decorate the new museum even though it won’t be completed.

A work day to put up outside lights has been schedule for November 22, Those wishing to decorate buildings should make arrangements with Village staff or Fern Bontrager.

Bontrager is also working with Iowa Mennonite School and Mid-Prairie to arrange additional caroling and musical presentations.

Entries are also needed for the lighted Christmas parade to be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, December 2. Reserve your spot in the parade by contacting Gaye Van Winkle at the Kalona News 656-2273. Anyone wishing to set up a booth for the Christmas Stroll from 3 to 6;45 p.m. should contact Van Winkle.
