Nannie Elizabeth Schumann, 90, formerly of Harper and South English, died July 7, 1999, in Manor House Care Center, Sigourney, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Services were Saturday, July 10, in Salem Mennonite Fellowship near Keota with the Reverends Wilford Stutzman, Wilford Beachy and John Mark Miller officiating. Burial was in Sunny Ridge Cemetery near Sigourney.
Born August 29, 1908 in Skermo, North Dakota, she was the daughter of Isaac and Emma (Wenger) Grove. When she was four years old, the family moved to Shenandoah Valley, in Virginia where she attended rural school.
She married Roy Schumann in Waynesboro, Virginia August 11, 1940. The couple moved to a farm near Harper where they lived until 1974 when they retired and moved to South English. Mrs. Schumann was a member of Salem Mennonite Fellowship.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Hazel and George Wheeldon of Sigourney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Sue Schumann of Naperville, Illinois, and Dwight and Mabel Schumann of Kalona; six grandchildren, Carla Bowers of Martelle, Loren Miller of Fairfield, Christine Schumann of Chicago, Illinois, Tamara Feigenspan of Iowa City, Tina Scandrett of Iowa City and Desiree Reed of Kalona.
Also surviving are seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Katie Weaver of Waynesboro, Virginia, Bertha Trusdell and Lois Blosser, both of Newport News, Virginia, and Eunice Grove of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; and three brothers, Timothy Grove and Enos Grove, both of Stuarts Draft, and David Grove of Spottswood, Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, a newborn daughter, one brother, Irvin Grove, and one sister, Mary Wright.
Memorials may be made to the American Bible Society.
