Initial salary negotiations between the Mid-Prairie Board of Education and the Mid-Prairie Education Support Staff Association (MPESSA) opened Tuesday afternoon.
In its proposal, MPESSA asks for a 25 cents per hour increase for all members. An increase in payment for physical exams from $25 to $35 and a provision for bus drivers to receive hepatitis inoculations paid by the district.
There also is a request for a provision to require a statement with each paycheck showing all deductions from pay, additional pay for overtime or added hours of work and regular hourly wage amounts.
The board’s initial response is that all provisions of the present agreement remain unchanged, except that in the insurance provisions, the board “..shall contribute $193 toward the cost of the employees working 35 hours or more…”

The Mid-Prairie Education Association seeks a total package increase of 4.81 percent, which includes salaries and benefits. The request would raise the base from $20,319 to $20,919.
The district response has been to keep the contract unchanged except for insurance items.
