WELLMAN
A pair of two-hit games by Mid-Prairie senior Cain Brown helped lead the top-ranked Golden Hawks to a doubleheader sweep of West Branch on Friday, extending their win streak to seven games.
Mid-Prairie (9-2), which is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, has not lost since May 22 to River Valley Conference rival Monticello. The Golden Hawks’ only other loss was to Johnston, the No. 4-ranked team in Class 4A, the first week of the season.
Brown had two hits and drove in two runs in a 6-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader against West Branch, then added two hits in the 6-0 win in Game 2. He also pitched two scoreless innings in Game 2.
Golden Hawks pitcher Alex Bean struck out seven in the opening game win, and Brady Weber, returning from a knee injury, struck out eight in the second game.
Mid-Prairie will play a doubleheader Monday at Wilton.
