A special Kalona citywide cleanup day set for May 8, 8 a.m. to 12 noon, offers residents an opportunity to dispose of tires, appliances, furniture and other items at reduced prices.
“Regular household garbage, recyclable, hazardous waste, oil, paint, tree limbs, yard waste, etc.,” will not be accepted,” stressed city administrator Doug Morgan. “Items that can be put in containers or bags for normal Monday garbage pickup should be put on the curb with tags for regular pickup May 10th.
Iowa City Clean Up & Transfer will provide several 40 yard rolloffs at the east parking lot in the Kalona City Park from 8 a.m. to noon May 8. Residents of Kalona should bring items of which they want to dispose of during those hours. There will be one rolloff container for large appliances such as refrigerators, hot water heaters, etc.
There will be a $5 charge for any appliance, sofa, furniture item, mattress, television sets, etc. Normally that charge is $8 to $20.
There will be a $2.50 per l00 pounds for any bulky items such as lumber.
Charges for disposal of tires will be as follows: car tires, $1 (normally $2.50); truck tires, $5; tractor tires, $15.
Kalona Rotary members will help pick up items for elderly or others needing assistance. Please call Ron Slechta at the Kalona News on Friday, May 7, to make arrangements.
Tree limbs and branches should be taken to the City of Kalona burn pile west of the Kalona Sales Barn.
The cleanup days are being co-sponsored by City of Kalona, Kalona News, Kalona Rotary and Iowa City Clean Up & Transfer.
