What do we expect from our elected officials? What kind of person do we want to represent Washington and southern Johnson County in the State House? Do we want someone who is accessible to their constituents, takes questions from their voters, and engages in forums where the general public can hear what they believe?
I personally want someone who does all of those things. Sadly, we only have one state house candidate who appears willing to show up for us.
One candidate has recently skipped two forums which they were invited to. That candidate has missed both the League of Women Voters of Johnson County candidate forum and the Iowa Faculty Senate and Professional and Scientific Staff Council Forum. It seems they don’t care about hearing from any of their constituents. Or want to be asked any questions.
Who is the candidate that has shown up? Eileen Beran. Eileen has dutifully attended forums, answered questions, and is more than happy to meet with voters. She is the kind of candidate who will represent us in Des Moines. She will listen to ALL of her constituents. How could we trust anybody else to represent us in Des Moines when they don’t care about answering our questions?
