Madelyn Bender, daughter of Kelby and Leanne Bender, presents her winning essay of the Kalona Optimist Essay Contest. Madelyn was presented with a certificate and a $500 scholarship to the college of her choice. Second and third place winners, who both received certificates, were Thaddeus Shetler, son of Stanwyn and Beth Shetler and Lilou Beachy, daughter of Tim and Elena Beachy, respectively. All three are Mid-Prairie seniors.
