Optimist photo contest results, display locations

On Saturday, June 17 at Kalona Days, attendees viewed the top six entries in two age groups from the Kalona Optimist Club’s annual photo contest and cast votes for those they thought best.

“We had a good turnout, a lot of people voted.  People really scrutinized the pictures when they came up and took a look at them,” Roger Weber, Optimist member and contest organizer, said before announcing the winners that afternoon.

The middle school winner is Maelys Beachy, who submitted a photo of a kitten.  The high school winner is Peighton Ford, who submitted a photo of a pig drinking from a hose.  Both student photographers received a People’s Choice Award plaque and $100 gift certificate.

The 12 photos on display during Kalona Days will now be viewable in three different locations around Kalona for the next few weeks.  They were on display at the Kalona Public Library from June 19- 26; they will be at CBI Bank from June 26-July 5, and at Hills Bank from July 5-12.
