Born December 13, 1911, near Kalona, he was the son of Abraham and Anna (Mueller) Troyer. He attended Brush Rural School.
Orval Edgar Troyer, 87, died Sunday, December 5, 1999, in Pleasantview Home, Kalona, following a brief illness.
Services were 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, in Yoder-Powell Funeral Home, Kalona, with the Reverend David L. Yoder officiating. Burial was in Lower Deer Creek Cemetery, rural Wellman.
Born December 13, 1911, near Kalona, he was the son of Abraham and Anna (Mueller) Troyer. He attended Brush Rural School.
He was united in marriage to Vivian Stutsman December 24, 1934 in Wellman. They lived in rural Kalona before moving to Indiana in 1950. Mr. Troyer worked as a general contractor, building churches in Indiana, Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, California, Oregon, Nebraska, Washington, Idaho, Florida, Missouri, Michigan and in Iowa he built the addition on Wellman Mennonite Church.
After 53 years in construction, Mr. Troyer retired in 1986. He and his wife returned to Wellman in July, 1996. After his wife’s death in January, 1997, he moved to Pleasantview Home in Kalona.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Lynn Byersdorf of Everett, Washington, and Clarissa and Dwayne Moench of Paso Robles, California; four sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Cindy Troyer of Middlebury, Indiana; James and Judy Troyer of Kansas City, Missouri; Philip and Bonnie Troyer of Asheville, North Carolina; Robert and Margriet Troyer of Aurora, California; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Willis Troyer of Wayland, and one sister, Dorothy Martin of Wellman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son; a grandson, Cory Troyer; four brothers, Ezra Troyer, Chris Troyer, Charlie Troyer and Raymon Troyer; and two sisters, Barbara Yoder and Alma Troyer.
