As the week progressed, more and more places announced they were closing or modifying their operations.

       On Monday, what started as a trickle of announcements became a flood.

       Here are changes announced as of Tuesday morning.

Senior Dining

       Wellman Senior Dining has shut down operations until further notice and will be delivering frozen meals. Anyone needing a delivery may call Wellman City Hall at 319-646-2154.

       All activities at the Goodwin Senior Center, including exercise and coffee, are canceled.

       Lone Tree Senior Dining is serving meals for carry-out or delivery only until further notice. To place an order, call 319-629-5144.

Sales Barn

       The Kalona Sales Barn is changing its operations to meet state requirements while helping its customers whose livelihoods depend on marketing their livestock.

       Spectators at the auction will be limited. Only active buyers will be allowed to attend the auction.

       This will allow customers to benefit from the auction process while honoring “social distancing” mandates from state officials.

Kalona Public Library

       The Kalona Public Library is closed to the public this week.

       However, people can call the library and arrange for a curbside pickup of materials with a minimum two-hour advance call. The phone number is 319-656-3501.

       The library board will meet Friday, March 20 to evaluate the situation and determine if a longer closure is necessary.

Wellman-Scofield

Public Library

       The Wellman-Scofield Public Library closed at noon Monday and will remain closed until further notice.

Pathway Christian School

       The grilled chicken dinner at Pathway Christian School scheduled for Friday has been postponed.

       The school will announce a new date in the future.

YMCA

       The YMCA of Washington County closed all fitness facilities Tuesday.

       They will remain closed until March 31, and YMCA officials will continue to assess the situation.

PAWS and More

       PAWS and More animal shelter in Washington is closed to the public. Only animals and employees are allowed inside.

       Animals are still up for adoption. People can view them on the shelter’s website and fill out an application. Shelter staff will contact applicants to set up a meeting with the animal.

       They are also seeking foster homes for the pets in the shelter. Call 319-653-6713 for more information.

       The shelter is still accepting stray animals.

Purple martin workshop

       Because of public health concerns, the 2020 purple martin workshop, scheduled for Saturday, March 21, has been postponed until a later, yet to be announced date.

       Organizers hope to host this event later this spring or during the summer, possibly as an outdoor event, at an active martin colony.

Kalona Optimist Club

       The Kalona Optimist Club will not meet this week.

Civco blood drive

       The community blood drive at Civco Medical Solutions scheduled for Thursday, March 26 has been canceled.

Historical Village

       The soup supper at Kalona Historical Village originally scheduled for March 26 has been postponed.

Kalona Quilt Show

       The annual Kalona Quilt Show scheduled for April 23-25 has been canceled.

Riverside VFW fish fry

       The Riverside VFW Post No. 6414 has postponed its March 27 fish fry.

Riverside Casino

       The Riverside Casino and Golf Resort closed at 5 p.m. Monday with an estimated re-opening on March 31.

       They are working to reschedule promotions, concerts and events and will make announcements when new dates are secured.

Riverside museum

       The Voyage Home Museum and Riverside History Center has closed for three weeks due to the coronavirus.

Wellman Skating Rink

       The Wellman Skating Rink is closed until further notice.
