Three days after setting numerous season-best marks at home in the Mike Kautz Invitational, the Lone Tree boys experienced less than ideal conditions on the road in Mount Pleasant.
“It was a super windy and cold night to run,” said Lone Tree coach Mike Close. The Lions finished tied for 10th out of 13 teams in Class B of the Denny White Relays.
The Lion shuttle hurdle relay of Ethan Willoz, Jader Bajaras, Drew Gauley and Cade Patterson finished just two tenths of a second behind the WACO relay, which owns the fourth-fastest time in 1A this year. The Lions ran a season-best time of 1:07.24 on Monday, which ranks 15th in 1A.
“Cade Patterson did really well in the 110s and shuttle,” Close said. “We ran well and competed well against some really good teams. I just wish we would have had better conditions for a meet like that. We are trying to shave some time so every little bit helps.”
Patterson had the highest individual finishes for Lone Tree on Thursday, taking third place in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the 400-meter hurdle race. His time of 17.72 in the 110-meter hurdles was a new personal best. Willoz was the only other individual scorer for the Lone Tree boys with an eighth-place finish of 18.39 in the 110-meter hurdles.
The 4x100-meter relay of Andrew Hotz, Ethan Bockelman, Harry Brenneman, and Bajaras finished fifth out of 13 teams with a time of 47.92. The 4x200-meter relay of Hotz, Gauley, Cade Shield, and Bajaras finished fifth as well.
